In our continuous quest for personal growth, we often encounter invisible chains that hold us back.

These are the burdens we carry, the silent whispers of past regrets, maybe the echoes of what could have been.

Today, we explore the art of releasing these weights to reclaim our freedom.

Normally I offer very practical steps, this week my post is more reflective and inspirational in nature – next weeks newsletter follows on from this with a different take on acceptance and how to do it.

This week I let go, of my desire to always show you how to do things!

What Binds You?

What constantly contains you from being your best?
That has been with you so long it’s a familiar friend?
It might be too painful to consider or deal with.

Keeps pulling you back like a bungee rope.
Sitting heavy on your back and shoulders.
What is dragging on you like an anchor?

Leaving a heavy imprint on your mind.
Lingering like an unwanted guest?
Sucking your energy and resolve.

Keeping you nailed to the floor.
Trapping you back in the past?
That you hold on so tightly to.

Have you forgotten how to,

LET GO?

The Poison of Holding On

Holding on to toxic thoughts and feelings is akin to poisoning the well of our own thinking.

It contaminates our perspective, taints our interactions, and stifles our growth.

Such thoughts can consume the energy we could be using for more useful pursuits.

Yet here is the strange thing, most of what we are holding onto is not a real, tangible thing we can grab hold of, it might be a memory, an idea, a story, a regret, a recollection, an interpretation and so much more.

What ever it is, it will be a THOUGHT with an accompanying EMOTION. Our thoughts have power, when we give them space to flourish they become quite real to us. Just remember if you are feeling discomfort, it is the thought that is the source - so changing your thoughts changes how you feel.

A very simple but powerful concept to reflect on.

The List of Letting Go

Is there something you need to let go of?

Here’s a list to help you identify what might be weighing you down:

  • Trying to control things outside your control.

  • Doom scrolling on social media.

  • Need for validation from others.

  • Fixation with possessions.

  • Unrealistic expectations.

  • Comparison to others.

  • Something unsaid.

  • Limiting beliefs.

  • A poor attitude.

  • Procrastination.

  • Fear of success.

  • Fear of failure.

  • Perfectionism.

  • Resentment.

  • Past trauma.

  • A grudge.

  • A regret.

The One Thing

What do you need to let go of?

What one thing will lighten your load, giving you the freedom to move forward?

Consider what it is. Commit to one small step to release the pressure.

Be kind to yourself, let go of what’s holding you back.

Need some help? Reach out and ask me. It could be the best thing you ever did, now.

Next week’s newsletter will introduce acceptance, a slightly different concept. I will also share how you can learn to accept something and what acceptance is.

Summary

The journey of letting go is not a sprint; it’s a marathon.

It’s a path paved with self-compassion, patience, and persistence.

As you take each step, remember that every ounce / gram lifted off your shoulders is a step towards a lighter, freer you.
