Embark on a journey of self-discovery with 21 transformative questions and their deeper explorations.

Understanding ourselves better is a path to personal growth and happiness.

In this special edition of Saturday Solace, we delve into 21 of my crucial questions, each accompanied by sub-questions for further reflection.

 Preparation

This is quite different to my usual newsletters. But right now is a good time to pause and reflect.

Set some time aside when you will not be disturbed, print the questions off and deeply reflect on them. Write you answers on your printout, it’s the best way to get fully engaged.

Notice which answers come easy, which are really challenging and which answers surprised you.

 21 questions of self-discovery

Are you ready for it? Here goes with the 21 self- reflection questions.

 

1. Letting Go of the Past

Main Question: What do you need to let go of?

 

Sub-Questions:

What is holding you back?

What is stopping you from being your best version?

Considerations:

Regret, injustice, forgiveness, harm felt, self-confidence gap, something someone said to you.

 

2. Missed Opportunities

Main Question: What have you not done so far that you would always regret?

 

Sub-Questions:

Describe what it looks, feels, and sounds like.

What would doing this mean for you?

What tiny step could you make towards this?

 

3. Influences in Life

Main Question: Who is poisoning your well? Past or present.

 

Sub-Questions:

Who drags you down as you think of them?

Who deflates you?

 

4. Joy and Fulfilment

 

Main Question: What makes your heart sing?

 

Sub-Questions:

What do you love doing?

What comes easily to you?

Think back to special moments in your life.

 

5. Personal Definition of Success

Main Question: What does success look like, sound like, and feel like?

 

Sub-Questions:

Define success for YOU.

It's about fulfilment, passion, and purpose.

 

6. Pursuit of Happiness

Main Question: What makes you so happy you wish you could do it forever?

 

Sub-Questions:

Delve into the past – what made you happy?

What makes you happy today?

Project forward – what would you love to do?

 

7. Uncompromising Principles

Main Question: What principle(s) would you never compromise on?

 

Sub-Questions:

Identify the absolutes you would never budge from.

 

8. Life Without Constraints

Main Question: If failure was impossible, what would you be doing with your time?

 

Sub-Questions:

Consider a life without constraints on money and time.

What would you spend your time doing?

How can you make one small step to include this in your life?

 

9. Desired Superpower

Main Question: What superpower would you love to have?

 

Sub-Questions:

What could you achieve with this superpower?

How would it make life easier?

What can you do to emulate that superpower now?

 

10. Undervalued Skills

Main Question: List the things you find so easy you don't value them.

 

Sub-Questions:

Ask friends and family what they think.

Consider how you can help others with these skills.

 

11. Finding Solutions

Main Question: If you knew what the answer was, what would it be?

 

Sub-Questions:

What one step could move you closer to this solution?

Who or what could get you there faster?

 

12. Identifying Personal Significance

Main Question: To what question are you the answer?

 

Sub-Questions:

What is your purpose?

What problem will you inevitably solve for others?

 

13. Identifying Life's Gaps

Main Question: Is something missing in your life? What?

 

Sub-Questions:

Identify the gaps – spiritual, family, health, finances, friends, social, learning.

 

14. Identifying Obstacles

Main Question: What is holding you back in life?

 

Sub-Questions:

Who or what is holding you back?

Slowing you down?

Blocking your way?

 

15. Seeking More

Main Question: What do you want more of?

 

Sub-Questions:

What lifts, nourishes, and motivates you?

 

16. Reducing Negatives

Main Question: What do you want less of?

 

Sub-Questions:

What drains or deflates you?

What can you do to have less of this in your life?

 

17. Admiration and Inspiration

Main Question: Who do you most admire and why?

 

Sub-Questions:

What does that tell you about the qualities you respect in others?

 

18. Addressing Roadblocks

Main Question: What's stopping you?

 

Sub-Questions:

Identify the roadblocks.

Simply identifying them will help you start thinking about how to clear them.

 

19. Legacy and Impact

Main Question: What do you want your legacy to be?

 

Sub-Questions:

If someone celebrated what you did for them, what would they say?

 

20. Overcoming Fear

Main Question: If fear were not a factor, what bold goal would you set for yourself?

 

Sub-Questions:

Why don't you then? What is stopping you?

Drill down 5 times to get to the real issue.

 

21. Defining Life Purpose

Main Question: If you had to describe your life's purpose in just one sentence, what would it be?

 

Sub-Questions:

Start with many sentences, then refine until you get to one accurate sentence.

 

Conclusion.

Well done.

Self-reflection is important and takes some investment of time and consideration.

Use these questions and sub-questions as a starting point for deeper exploration. Reflect on them, journal your thoughts, or discuss them with someone you trust. The insights you gain can be transformative.

 

Now comes the “what will you do part.” What I refer to as “So what?”

Write down what you will,

  • Start doing.

  • Stop doing.

  • Do more of.

  • Do less of.

  • Any other key specific actions.

Self-reflection is the start of the journey, now you have to act on it.
